Sapphire Engagement Ring

A Sapphire Engagement Ring is not a new thing. For centuries these wonderful stones where used as engagement ring alternative to diamonds. The royal families have a long history of such examples, one being Prince Charles and Princes Diana. Other being Duke of Kent and Princes Marina of Greece and Duke of Gloucester gave Lady Alice "a square sapphire.

Choosing a Sapphire over a Diamond has many justifications. Some people are simply looking to save money, others find the diamond to be to benign. Many people are concerned about conflict or blood diamonds and want to avoid contributing to the problem. What ever the reasons are, sapphires are a great alternative to diamonds. Other alternatives can be found here.

Sapphires come in many colors. The blue is the most common color when one thinks of sapphires. It is simply referred to as sapphire. When we speak of other colors we have to specify the color. Ruby is a red sapphire, but we never refer to it as red sapphire.

Sapphire can be purchased for much less then a diamond. The price of a sapphire varies from $500 to $5000 per carat. The price depends on many factors, including quality, color and origin. You should expect to pay up to $2500 per carat for a good quality sapphire. If you want an untreated sapphire of exceptional color with Kashmir origin then $5000 per carat is inevitable. However, this is still less then half the price of a comparable diamond.
